Valley routes
The valley routes are a 265km long network of cycling paths along the rivers Erft, Urft, Olef, Ahr and the Neffelbach. They make for an attractive cycling network with minimal inclines, you move from upper reaches of the rivers and from valley to valley. You also have the option to combine individual cycling routes. From high altitude train stations in Schmidtheim, Nettersheim, and Blankeheimer-Wald, the paths lead you down to the valleys. These routes are ideal for families and leisurely cyclists that wish to spend a cycling vacation in the Eifel!
Along the Valley routes from Urft and Olef
This tour initially runs upstream from the upper reaches of the river Urft near Kall, whe-re you can find traces and explore the once longest Roman aqueduct in Europe, the Roman Canal. From Nettersheim, the route leads you along the heights of the North Eifel and later down to the valley of the Olef all the way to Hellenthal. From Hellenthal, the valley route Olef leads you past numerous locations of the former major ironware industry into the Kneipp spa town of Gemünd. From there, the 50km long round trip along the Urft valley comes to an end in Kall. (see tour no. 3 in the pocket guide “ 15 cycling tours in the North Eifel”).
