Kronenburg
Pure romance awaits you in the picturesque castle village of Kronenburg first documented in 1277. Situated on a hilly ridge above the Kyll valley it greets its visitors. Stroll through narrow lanes, admire medieval houses and walk around the castle ring wall. This encloses the ruins of Kronenburg castle and the up to 400 year old houses.
Where once knights, castellans, clerics, farmers and craftsmen were at home, now there are art galleries and craft shops. Many well-kept half-timbered houses still exist. The parish church of St. John the Baptist, dated back to the 15th century is an architectural work of art. A single central pillar supports the net vault of this single pillared church, which is well-worth seeing. More and more artists moved to Kronenburg in the 19th century. Follow in their footsteps on the Kronenburg Art trail. With a climb up to the castle ruins you can enjoy a beautiful and Eifel view over the Kyll valley and Kronenburg Lake.
Traditionally on the first weekend of Advent one of the most beautiful Christmas markets of the Eifel takes place within the castle ring wall.
