Roman Road Adventure Region
In order to keep the large territory together and secure, the Romans constructed a wide network of roads. The “VIA Erlebnisraum Römerstraße/Agrippastraße- Via Belgica” project brings the former Roman state roads in the Rhineland back to life on hiking and cycling trails. The uncovering and reconstruction of the Roman art of building roads becomes visible.
Along the way numerous information boards explain the construction and directions of the roads. The monuments and sights mentioned, such as the Archaeological Landscape Park in Nettersheim and the Blankenheim Roman villa. “Mansiones” (=lat: guesthouses) in Nettersheim, Mechernich-Eicks and Zülpich-Schwerfen invite you for a refreshment break.
Visit the new information centres “VIA Erlebnisraum Römerstraße/Agrippastraße- Via Belgica” in the Eifel situated in Blankenheim and Nettersheim. In Blankenheim they focus on the theme of “life in the country”, whereas the theme of the exhibition in Nettersheim is “trade and industry in the Roman era”. The information centre is the ideal start for hikes and excursions concerning the topic of Romans.
