Former bunker of the NRW Federal Central Bank
The bunker of the Federal Central Bank in Mechernich-Satzvey was planned under top secrecy during the Cold War, and from 1966-1969, was constructed beneath the school building, built above later on. The atomic bunker was to be the head of the Düsseldorf Federal Central Bank "V-Fall" -in the event of defence, to secure its "functionality".
Until 1989 personnel presence and exercises took place in the complex. In 1990 it was no longer used. Since May 2012 the complex- in the form of guided tours-is open to the public.
