Our goal
With its sparkling starry skies, the Eifel National Park qualifies as a Star Park. Fifteen years after its foundation, the large protected area received the most significant recognition from the international Dark-Sky Association (IDA)
We aim to to reach our goal to protect the night from the impact of artificial light and with that to preserve and promote the biodiversity. Bats, migratory birds, and many other animals benefit from the protecting night sky. Additionally, it is possible to observe the Milky Way on the starry sky.
Next next goal
Our next goal is the official recognition as a star region. The condition for this recognition is that in a corridor of approximately 15km around the National Park region appropriate measures against wasted light and light pollution are implemented. The information and awareness of all parties in the region has started and it ensures that the Eifel star region can be a reality in the future.
