Visitors’ mine "Grube Wohlfahrt"
Experience the "Eifel from down under" the whole year round and learn about the fascinating underground world of the "Grube Wohlfahrt" in Hellenthal-Rescheid! The exciting guided tours into the old ore mine start three times a day, giving children above all a special experience. The tours begin in the mining hall, where there are also small topical exhibitions to see. A staircase leads to the “deep tunnel” which is connected to some 900m of side tunnels accessible for visitors.
There are a lot of exciting things to find out about, such as the life of the miners and the geological history of the Eifel. Discover the testimonies of mining from the Middle Ages to the 19th and early 20th century, when they were still using black powder for explosions, but transportation was already taking place with the first and only electric mine train of the Eifel. The 100 year old carved drawings are a special feature in the "deep tunnel".
The mine offers special programmes the whole year, for example with the "treasure hunt" for children and the young at heart or the evening tour "by the light of old mining lamps". Explore the traces of mining above ground on the informative path around the "Grube Wohlfahrt".
