The striking head of the Eifel wildcat is the distinctive mark of the 85km long "Wilderness Trail" through the Eifel National Park. You can hike the entire route in just four days. But even a single days stage can be a challenge to start with.
The Wilderness Trail leads from the village Höfen, via Einruhr, Gemünd, and Heimbach to Zerkall. The trails run through the forests of the Eifel National Park, through mean-dering spring areas and along daffodil- and wild flower meadows, rushing streams and the crossing of lake Urft. The grounds of Vogelsang IP with its visitor centre and both exhibitions, Destiny: Master Race and Wilderness Dreams, are located along the way of the Wilderness Trail.
The 4 stages of the Wilderness Trail from Höfen to Zerfall:
1. Monschau-Höfen to Simmerath-Einruhr (25km) 2. Simmerath-Einruhr to Schleiden-Gemünd (20km) 3. Schleiden-Gemünd to Heimbach (22km) 4. Heimbach to Hürtgenwald-Zerkall (18km)
