Birdwatching at Urftsee (lake Urft)
The birdwatching view point between Gemünd-Malsbenden and the Urft dam walls is a great locations to watch birds. With a little luck you can not only see grey herons, loons, and ducks, but also cormorant breeding colonies.
The cormorant was hunted for centuries and evenbecame extinct in the western Ger-man inland after the second world war. Due to national and international protective provisions, the population has recovered well.
Two high-quality telescopes with 15-fold magnification are permanently installed at dif-ferent heights in the observation area. Therefore, this natural experience is also acces-sible to wheelchair users. In addition, a wheelchair fits under the information board about the landscape and the birds in the area.
