Wilderness Trail
"Out and about in the jungle of tomorrow"
The striking head of the Eifel wildcat is the distinctive mark of the 85km long “Wilder-ness Trail” through the Eifel National Park. You can hike the entire route in just four days. But even a single days stage can be a challenge to start with.
"Spectacle of nature meets history"
The Wilderness Trail leads from the village Höfen, via Einruhr, Gemünd, and Heimbach to Zerkall. The trails run through the forests of the Eifel National Park, through mean-dering spring areas and along narcissi- and wild flower meadows, rushing streams and the crossing of the Urft lake. The area of Vogelsand IP with its visitor centre and the two exhibitions “Destiny: master race and Wilderness dreams” are located along the way.
The 4 stages of the Wilderness Trail from Höfen to Zerfall:
1. Monschau-Höfen to Simmerath-Einruhr (25 km)
2. Simmerath-Einruhr to Schleiden-Gemünd (20 km)
3. Schleiden-Gemünd to Heimbach (22 km)
4. Heimbach to Hürtgenwald-Zerkall (18 km)
