Special features of the seasons
Special events take place in the North Eifel during all four seasons of the year, to which you are welcome. Offered are daffodil hikes along the upper Olef valley, the Herbal day in Bad Münstereifel, and Nettersheim, the “Ginsterblütenfest” (broom blossom festival) on the Dreiborn plateau, or the “Wacholderfest” (juniper festival) in the Lampertstal.
Wild daffodils
From late March to early May, the wild growing yellow daffodils transform the meadows into yellow flower carpets. Experience the magic of flowers along two signposted hiking trails individually, or accompanied by a professional guide on a guided tour.
Eifel Herbal Day
Around the Eifel Nature Centre in Nettersheim and in the historic town centre of Bad Münstereifel, visitors will come across vivid market live and an herbal mile with stands that don’t only showcase the diversity of herbs.
Along the “Eifel Kräuterpfad” (Eifel Herbal Trail), which connects the two villages, trained herb educators and hiking guides are present to answer questions and to show which “delicacies” can be found along the way.
Broom ("Eifel gold")
Every year, the Dreiborner plateau in the Eifel National Park, transforms into a yellow sea of flowers when the “Eifel gold”, unfolds its splendour. Every two years, the broom festival, which is celebrated in Dreiborn in connection with the “Parks day”, offers diverse program for young and old. And of course, your culinary wishes will be taken care of.
Juniper
The 1,100 square metre juniper protected area is the perfect backdrop for the juniper festival. Every two years in the summer, the traditional festival takes place in the centre of the juniper slopes in Blankenheim- Alendorf.
Take a guided tour to the juniper groves during which you will also see wild orchids, the original river valley, and the lime stone which is typical for the “Kalkeifel” with its “Kalktriften”. After this hike you deserve a refreshment. The regional specialties around the juniper are delicious and strengthening.
