Municipality of Dahlem
Here guests are welcomed by the romance of the picturesque Kronenburg castle village. Kronenburg was first mentioned in a document in 1277. It greets the visitor from a hilltop above the idyllic Kylltal.
Stroll through narrow streets, admire medieval houses and discover the “Burgbering", which encloses the ruins of Kronenburg and up to 400 year old houses. Those who hike to the castle, may experience a beautiful Eifel view across the wide landscape and Lake Kronenburg.
Who decides to take off from the Dahlemer Binz airfield will see the Eifel from its most beautiful side. The airfield for airplanes and gliders is perfect for visitors that are a fan of aviation. An amazing feature is that skydiving jumps are possible from up to 4,000 meters. If you are choosing a tandem-jump, a professional skydive teacher will be accompanying.
For lovers of water sports, for sailors and surfers, the Kronenburg Lake is highly recommendable with its water surface area of around 28 hectares. Kronenburg lake and Kyll river also offer great fishing opportunities. At the same time it is an unmatched landscape experience.
The holiday park Kronenburg Lake is surrounded by forest, in a natural south-facing slope above the Lake area. It offers tourists more abundant recreation and leisure facilities. In addition to the 130 vacation homes there is a central leisure- and service center with an indoor pool and other tourist facilities.
There you may find also the tourist information center of the municipality of Dahlem.
The 68 km long Eifeler Quellenpfad offers ideal opportunities for hiking due to its direct connection to the Eifelsteig. As the path leads parallel various railway stations and villages, it is very suitable for day hikes.
Next to this, the circa 9 km long Moorpfad is another attractive option for hiking. It leads through the east of Dahlem, called "Water Dell". This is a beautiful natural landscape with large moorland areas and peat moss.
The "Barfuß- und Generationenpark Schmidtheim" offers a contrast to relaxing, and tightens your sense with a tour through the "Barefoot Park". With fifteen stops, it offers a unique experience not only for your feet.
For those who prefer to travel on two wheels we do recommend the routes of the Kyll-Radweg or the Eifel-Höhen-Route.
Ideal starting and destination points for hiking and cycling are the "cycle and hike train stations" in Schmidtheim and Dahlem.
(! Due to the flooding in July the access to public transport by train can not be guaranteed. Please take notice of the topical updates regarding "Schienen-Ersatz-Verkehr" (rail replacement services).)
